[how it's hangin' | pretty darn good]
[musak |all week: marc almond, madonna, & motorhead!]

I, as well as the crazy minneapolis muzak scene in general, got a nice mention in this article: Critics offer evidence that music scene is alive and well )

keeping it rolling, i'm presently putting the finishing touches on 'Eerie Sequins in Cocaine', my third and final cut for the DD/OG split. then:
*right to work on a track for Signal Fire, a microbroadcasters' benefit cd
*a little sound swap/remix project with my good friend Datura 1.0, 50's Normalcy Porn (working title)
*recording and mastering Dedication to Horus
*recording my first feature LP, The Executrix. dude, it's gonna be so good. this is what i plan to tour on. oh, did i mention i'm going on tour? yep! this summer, the honeymoon of core, break and drone style: Slut Machine, Hecate, Abelcain, Xanopticon, Gigglin' Dildas and...me. 3 couples. 7 cities (so far). hours of driving beats, driving drones, and just plain driving. details as they arrive. ooooh, and i'm makin' myself a mean costume. i think it's time to give 'em a show again. while i love concentrating on making music on stage, there's that part of me that HAS to give some kind of flash. or flesh. or both. or neither. or just SOMETHING extra special. i've got a few ideas...muwahahahahaha!

last minute show announcement and updates [Dec. 4th, 2004|05:33 pm]
i'll be joining the below bill:
my set was. the monitors on stage were so muddy that i couldn't hear what i was doing. so i wanked for 23 minutes. i couldn't tell if the audience really liked it, or were just "wuuuuuooooooah"ing me back. my people said it sounded fine, but i was still left feeling...meh *shrug*. i did make a new friend, though, one of the regulars who asked if he could be my number one fan. his wife left without him, clearly pissed he was paying more attention to me than to her and telling my husband he was a lucky guy!! hee hee. he was funny. we tried to get him to get up and play air guitar with Good Morning, but he wouldn't do it. he bopped around during Noel's set though. just a hoot.

Sat 12/4 Show at 10pm $3

Christensen's Big V's Saloon
1567 University Avenue
St Paul, MN 55104
651.645.8472

*Good Morning--"crusty political punk band with samplers and/or keyboard". see 17hex for audio and more.
they were AWESOME. all my favorite things about punk and metal, rolled into one. my best heckle of the night:
Band: how's it sound out there? like shit? good! we want it to sound like that!
Me: it's so crusty...i gotta change my underwear! (the pause was perfect).

*Fadladder--first-ever solo set from Noel, dark mistress of the duo. latest album, "It's About Love" available for free download @ Dark Winter
Noel did a fantastic job. she's adorable. best set i've ever seen her do, and i hope she does more of it. really loud, screaming banshee to fun beats.

*Fuck Your Face--sonic bukkake? i have no idea, and no one else seems to either. i'm looking forward to finding out.
had to leave before they went on

*No--aggro side of No Face, Minneapolis' premiere avant-garde noise collective.
very aggro, very unhinged. cock esp (emil elyse pat from OVA!, who were all tripping!) loved it.

seems that this show is the first in a series of "crossover" shows that Good Morning are doing, i.e. they normally play with other hardcore bands and are reaching over into the noise camp. should be an assaulting night of make-the-metal-face fun.

prior to this, [info]r4c and i went to see Pauline. she was great but we had to sit through some REALLY shlocky student shit before her set. at one point, a baby in the audience was fussing, and i prayed it would start wailing--at least something would've been happening!
the first set was two trios of dancers and percussionists "improvising" the music didn't bother me too much, but it didn't really do much either. the dancing really got on my nerves. it seemed to revolve around a set of predetermined moves, which were all cliched and kind of dorky. there was one girl, lanky and toned, who was really good, but i was embarrassed for her, having to do these ridiculous moves--i bet she's amazing when she's not doing that. i also would've been less irritated had they had better costumes that flowed, rather than baby tees and dance pants--BORING! R4C made the astute observation that the piece should have been called "Look What I Can Do!"
the second set was so bad i don't know where to start. i don't understand how ten people can be on stage surrounded by all kinds of instruments (bottles, balloons, vacuum tubes, french horn, bass, etc., etc.) and make NOTHING. there was one cute-in-an-academic-way woman who kept either sitting on her haunches or her butt, with her legs spread wide and an 'instrument' between them, so i was able to fantasize about her getting naughty up there...this helped me through the ordeal. otherwise, uff da!. LOOK! it's serious dancing and moaning guy! LOOK! it's the smiling lady who thinks she's a child or David Berkowitz! LOOK! it's vacuum tube dude getting jiggy with the ridges! you get the picture.
so, apart from my "trying to find something positive to focus on in this mess" female objects of desire, it was poop. fortunately, PO delivered. she is so cute.

it being the first of xmas...er...december, i'd like to present a christalicious munchable from Negativland!

"The Mashin' of the Christ" was created using a combination of decrypted
footage ripped from DVDs rented from Netflix and Blockbuster, "found" 16mm
film footage, original CGI, films obtained from peer-to-peer file-sharing
networks, the "found" vocals of the Rev. Estus W. Pirkle, and original music
composed and played by Negativland.

"you must learn control...no more will i teach you today" [Nov. 30th, 2004|04:21 pm]
[how it's hangin' | mellow]

so, Pauline Oliveros is doing a FREE show this saturday (12/04/04). info. i'm so there. she is amazing. don't know who she is? find out. trust me. she made John Cage bow down, without a word, which pleases me enormously. (i don't really know what i have against john cage, but it has something to do with pomposity. i somehow always associate the two.)

i've been listening to a lot of Beethoven these last few days. I think his 9th symphony is my favorite--it always makes me want to see 'A Clockwork Orange' over and over and over. i love that rascal Alex and his Ludwig Van.

[a moodsound equation:Ultraviolence+Branca+InoutInout+Swans=happy dewberry. throw in a little Diamanda for that touch of primitive feline grace, and i'd probably be ecstatic. i just need heavy dynamics to assault me. oh, and speaking of, DESTRUCTION THERAPY! )]

finishing my material for the OG/DD split this week. it's all going to be heavily sexual. i'm reconstructing "The Black Bomber" (my first performance soundtrack) for it. also including "Fuck Like You Mean It", and i'm composing a brand new piece for it. for some reason, a really nasty, bad-ass version of "Justify My Love" keeps running through my head, but i CANNOT bring myself to do it. that would be akin to a Don Johnson/Patrick Swayze mash-up:too fucking easy.

i wonder if serial killer recreation games are next? you could pit Dahmer against Gacy, the Hillside Stranglers against the Sunset Strip Slayers, Bundy against Panzram, Ramirez against Claux. Lucas and Toole could pop in for comic relief. [info]r4c and i have theoretically designed in our heads a s.k. pinball game, which of course would be the coolest, because it would be pinball. "DING DING DING! Extra Rope! DING DING DING! Elude Police! DING DING DING! Helter Skelter MULTIBALL!!" that would be boss.

sinday bloody sinday [Nov. 21st, 2004|11:10 am]
it's sunday. i like sundays. i also like sin. "Shining Sinners" by Marc & the Mambas is one of my fave songs. the seven deadly sins, and their interpretations interest me. i love the movie, Se7en. i've got an excellent book called Seven Deadly Sins, edited by Allison Fell, published by Serpent's Tail. it's seven short stories based on the deadly sins by female authors. Kathy Acker wrote the one on "Lust". perhaps it's time for me to tackle The Divine Comedy again. i've read "Inferno", but it was for school years ago, and i just plowed through it to get the gist for a test.

i'm in the mood for heavy. winter is closing in, and i'm ready to hibernate. i'd love nothing more than to shack up in the mountainous woods, with a woodstove, a clawfoot tub, candles, a pile of epic books, Khatchaturian, Wagner and Beethoven, and lots of wine and weed. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmyeah.

time dies when you're having fun [Nov. 16th, 2004|07:13 pm]
[how it's hangin' | good an' sleazy.]
[musak |foetus-throne of agony]

"Throne of Agony" by Foetus is probably one of my favorite songs EVER. i had a crazy sex dream about the Thirl the other night. i'm still a little worked up about it. *mreow mreow* found this review of a show he did with Coil. i can only drool...er...imagine. now, if Marc Almond had been there, i'd kill myself for not being there. so, i guess it's a good thing he wasn't. oh, my holy trinity of snizz. Marc. Coil. Jim. good fuck. i'm dying here.

oh, and btw, sweater bondage! perfect for those long, cold minnesota nights!

i'd like to hump a throbbing bassline right about now. in a sweater.

*** *** ***

so, i have yet another idea for a recording. while finishing Henry Miller's Moloch last night, i stumbled on the BEST word for the title. i have images in my head for the artwork. also developing the packaging for "horus/13", which i think i might do as a 2track cd, in a double-covered sleeve. that's the one nice thing about having a boring temp job where i can wear headphones and tune out the banality: my imagination is so rampant. it's so weird though, that i have the most ideas when i can't execute them, yet when i have all the time in the world (like the last three months of unemployment), i'm hard-pressed to do more than wish i had all those ideas and inspiration again. i think i just can't operate at half-speed. it's full throttle or nada. how very scorpion. jeez louise.

noel and i made some really good, frightening stuff the other night. very banshee in a forest of swirling leaves on a moonless night. [info]spacebug, i think we need to recruit you for the cult. a triad of girls making witchy noise, oh my god. we'll scare away all the chicks with acoustic guitars-for good! heh heh heh.

pixies and pee pees and promiscuous projects [Nov. 11th, 2004|12:25 pm]
[how it's hangin' | pretty good]
[musak |the pixies, naturally!]

miss julia wrangled an extra ticket for me to join her at the Pixies show last night. i'm so glad i got the opportunity to finally see them. it was an awesome show-the lighting design was fantastic, and the band looked as though they had a really good time throughout. they are adorable. they did all the songs from 'doolittle', including both versions of "wave of mutilation", as well as my personal faves, "subbacultcha" and "where is my mind" (which i cried during, naturally, having been asking myself the same question lately), and a bunch of others. i liked the way they let all the songs run into one another without a million breaks. it was very strange to sit down at a rock show (i gave my chair spring a hearty workout *bouncybouncybouncy*), not to mention being stone cold sober. their encore was perfect too: they unslung their gear, turned the lights up, and basked in the crowd's appreciation, laughing and waving, and then just climbed back on to rock a few more ditties. it was a self-proclaimed sell-out that worked for everyone, without sucking. it was really what i needed, just some good ole fashioned rock--i've been live rock starved for too long. needed to shake my 'good frame'! too bad about the opener though, the datsuns. the datsuns. the name says it all. empty, cliched hipsters playing really boring rock. "I'm a mother fucker from hell!!" oh, really? you look like a rockerjunkie wannabe with too much hair product there, buddy. very un-bitchin. oh, and by the way, you really need to invest in better bass lessons. i don't know what they were doing there at all. apparently, they're quite popular. oh, how the populus loves its mediocrity.

moving right along...

you can imagine my glee when discovering this in [info]vintage_sex

how wicked is that? this piece is called "Her God", by Martin van Maele. i found another neat page with lots of dark and twisted sexy-deathy illustrations called Antique Weird. nice stuff.

getting together with my friend noel tomorrow night for some hot girl-on-girl analog synth action. i'm interested in trying out some ethereal organic stuff with her. she did some cool vocalizations at the last Fadladder gig. really primal, but with a hidden feminine agenda. muwahahaha! i have a feeling we can conjure up something mysterious and elusive.

i've also been thinking about a new recording project, based on detective noir. i've just completed a Raymond Chandler omnibus containing his four best known novels, The Big Sleep, Farewell, My Lovely, The High Window and The Lady in the Lake. in turn, this piqued my interest in the noir film genre and accompanying scores. i don't really know how i'll accomplish this without actually learning to play instruments or relying too heavily on sampling other people's material. a good challenge!

now, if i could just finish my outstanding projects: material for the OG/DD split and committing to disc finalized/mastered versions of 'the thirteenth hour' and 'dedication to horus' for release. i am now accepting offers for a swift kickstart in the ass!

happy birthday to me! [Nov. 4th, 2004|09:49 am]
[how it's hangin' | thoughtful, but amused]

yup. it's my birthday. i have been 29 for 7 hours now. 29! it's my last year in the roaring twenties. maybe this means i won't be such a drunken floozy...nah, i doubt it!

being caught in the strange limbo i'm in is creating a difficult springboard for my traditional birthday meditation. i'm reading Siddhartha, hoping to find a shred of peace and inspiration. for some reason, i can only think about the time between now and December 21, 7:42 A.M EST, the winter solstice (incidentally, i was just invited to do a set that night, with dancers! as part of the "every other tuesday" improv series).

i probably just need some fucking rock. and i shall have it: going to the Miminokoto/Plastic Crimewave show tonight after class. read all about it ) I just saw that on saturday in seattle, miminokoto will be playing with kinski and the master musicians of bukkake! what a great name! hahahahahahahahahaha!! and they sound terrific! "They all seemed to be excellent musicians, but the atrocity was their live act and is definitely something I would not wish on anyone." - Jet City Reviews. awesome. that sounds like some snizz rock, fer sure. now THAT's a show i wish i could see.

EEK! [Oct. 13th, 2004|03:40 pm]
[how it's hangin' | wheeee!]

à six heures du ROCK!

we arrived in geneva monday morning, flying in through layers of clouds that sandwiched the mountain tops, highlighted by the rising sun. circadian rhythms totally fucked up. dinked around geneva yesterday, and put my ten year old french through its paces suprisingly well. i do find myself speaking english very slowly, with a french accent. funny. it's that mirroring thing i do.

today we came to lausanne. checked in, got fed, met some people. now, in the hotel, killing time till my sound check. getting the nervy tummy butterflies. i go on at ten (three pm CST), the first performer of the fest. the operatic aspects of my set have been ditched, just music. it's going to be SUPER FUCKING LOUD!!

i love a healthy woman:
